UPSC Indian Forest Service (IFS) Examination 2026 Notification
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially released the notification for the Indian Forest Service (Preliminary) Examination, 2026. This recruitment is for 80 vacancies for the post of Indian Forest Service Officer (Group ‘A’). The selection process for the IFS starts with the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, which acts as a common screening test for both IAS and IFS candidates.

Eligibility Criteria (As on 01.08.2026)

Educational Qualification: Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university with at least one of the following subjects:

Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, and Zoology.

OR a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Forestry, or Engineering.

Age Limit: 21 to 32 years.

Relaxation: SC/ST (5 years), OBC (3 years), PwBD (10 years).

General/EWS: 06

OBC: 09

SC/ST: Unlimited (Up to age limit).

Selection Process
The UPSC IFS recruitment consists of three stages:

Stage I: Preliminary Examination (Common with CSE) – Scheduled for 24 May 2026.

Stage II: Main Examination (Written/Descriptive) – Scheduled to begin on 22 November 2026.

Stage III: Interview/Personality Test (300 Marks).
